On New Year's Day, you could find hundreds of people in a gym, working on that New Year's resolution.

Some people took a different route on Wednesday, by going on a free, guided hike at Booker T. Washington State Park.

"Tennessee State Parks takes the initiative to try to get people out for the New Year," said Kahla Stewart, a certified interpretive guide at Booker T. Washington State Park.

It's part of America's State Parks First Day Hikes in all 50 states.

Free hikes are available at all 56 state parks in Tennessee, except for the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, which hosted the New Year's Eve event in Nashville.

The free guided hike at Booker T. Washington lasted for about an hour on Wednesday.

Stewart included information about Tennessee State Symbols and the seven trace principals.
