A duplex fire in the Orchard Knob community on Friday night is under investigation.

It happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of E. 4th Street near Greater Community Church of Chattanooga.

Chattanooga Fire Department spokesperson Lindsey Rogers says people living in one side of the duplex walked outside to find smoke coming their home after smelling it from inside.

Rogers says those residents quickly told their neighbors about the smoke and all residents safely got out of the home.

Rogers says firefighters arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke coming from the home.

Firefighters found the fire, put it out and then cut holes in the roof of the duplex to clear out the smoke.

No one was hurt.

The Red Cross was called in to help the residents.

Rogers says the cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
