Dade County Sheriff's Office is warning residents in what they call a common scam that is hitting the area again.

Investigators say the scammers attempted to scam Sheriff  Ray Cross by mailing a check to the Sheriff's Office and request that he cashes it.

According to the investigators, the scammer will gain personal and banking information if the check is deposited into the victim's account.

The scammer then will use all the information he would acquire and use it for online purchases.

Deputies are urging residents not to fall for this scam, senior citizens who do not use or have access to social media are the people who are targeted the most

according to Dade County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies want residents to spread the word about this scam immediately.
