Lane Funeral Home is among many of the local businesses supporting the Share Your Christmas™ food drive.

David Keller, the managing partner for the funeral home, says the cause is close to his heart.  "I was one of those families that needed food, we were starving and I'm not exaggerating. We came from very humble beginnings so, this cause is very close to me," Keller said.

Keller said he used to be one of the 47,000 people who do not know where their next meal is coming from.

He said his childhood made him want to Share his Christmas with others in Hamilton County. "We want to get the word out that every car is full of food for a needy family and no one goes hungry this Christmas,” Keller said.

Shopping carts are available at the funeral home for customers to put canned goods inside. Those non-perishable items will be donated to the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.

Keller thinks the display serves as a reminder that not everyone can afford a meal on Christmas day. "When you are sitting at your dinner table and your bellies are so full that you can't even get up, remember there are some families who don't have anything. Literally nothing,” said Keller.

He hopes families that are more fortunate will find the time to donate. “I think there are families out there that throw a lot of food away and I think there are families out there that could use that food,” Keller said.

You can donate at the funeral home until the food drive, which will be on Friday, December 6. They are located on Ashland Terrace in Chattanooga.

If you can’t make it to the funeral home to donate, from 4:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, December 6, Channel 3 will accept cash and food donations for the Food Bank.
