It's time to lace up your skates and hit the ice when Ice on the Landing opens Friday night at 6.

"For Chattanooga it's a little bit of a novelty to be able to ice skate. We don't have any other opportunity throughout the year indoors or outdoors. People really look forward to this opportunity to get out and learn to skate,” organizer Carla Pritchard said.

Under the lights of the Chattanooga Choo Choo, the team sets up shop until January. This year, hiccups have them working under the wire.

"I've had my team out here all night long, working hard to keep spraying, keep making more ice, so we can hit that 6 o'clock open time,” Pritchard said.

Keeping an eye on the ice falls to manager Bill Matthews. After getting a day behind, he has things back on track for opening night.

"Getting all the material in here, putting things together it's a two week process. Getting the refrigeration pads out and now actually making ice,” he said.

Matthews says year after year, Ice on the Landing just keeps getting better.

"Good weather and a lot of people coming back to skate. We get more and more every year and people come back. A lot of people buy their own skates and get season passes and are here 3 or 4 times a week,” he said.

With all the kinks finally worked out, the team is ready to lace up, let loose and hit the ice.

"It's like 'here we go,' and then I know from that point it's going to go well because we've got a great group of folks out here,” Pritchard said.

Tickets for Ice on the Landing are $10 for adults and $8 for kids. The rink is open every day through January 20th.
