A city at the center of the civil rights movement installs its first African-American mayor.

Steven Reed was sworn in Tuesday as Montgomery, Alabama's 57th mayor, becoming the first black person male or female to hold the office.

Reed shared his vision for the city's future in front of his family, friends and the community.

Reed also credited his family thanking his parents who moved to Montgomery to gain opportunities, and education because the town they are from denied such opportunities as a result of their race.
