SWAT standoff in East Ridge ends with arrest of suspect
A SWAT standoff in East Ridge ended with an arrest on Tuesday morning.
It happened at a home in the 500 block of South St. Marks Avenue around 11:40 a.m.
East Ridge Police Chief Stan Allen says officers received a call from Tennessee Probation and Parole advising that the agency had received an email from the girlfriend of Dwight Keith Land, stating her boyfriend was threatening to shoot her and/or himself.
Allen says police arrived at the scene to find the girlfriend outside the home and Land still inside, armed with a gun.
Allen says several attempts were made to contact Land but he would not respond.
Allen says SWAT team members went inside the home to find Land in a backroom closet with a gun in his mouth.
SWAT team members were able to get the gun from Land’s mouth, by striking him and forcing him to drop it.
Land was taken into custody without incident.
He is charged with Aggravated Domestic Assault and Parole Violation.
