Dalton Utilities to grant more veterans job interviews through new partnership
Dalton Utilities is partnering with the U.S Army to hire more veterans.
The utility joined the army’s Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) program. PaYS is a partnership between the U.S. Army and a cross section of corporations, companies and public sector agencies to guarantee soldier interviews. The program began in 2000 as an enlistment incentive for regular army enlisted soldiers, according to the Army’s website.
“Dalton Utilities already employees 25 veterans, more than 8% of its workforce, and it only makes sense for the company to join PaYS, since some of our strongest hires have been military veterans,” said Tom Bundros, Chief Executive Officer with Dalton Utilities. “We always want to support the U.S. Military, and these individuals have maturity beyond their years, strong work ethics, integrity and can-do attitudes.”
Sgt. Shaun Glaze, a U.S. Army recruiter in Dalton, says the program also helps with recruitment. The Texas native says enlisted in 2010 while $15,000 in debt as a college student at the University of North Texas.
“I was looking for a way to get out,” he said.
Sgt. Glaze says he decided to meet with a recruiter.
“You know he showed me all of my options,” he said. “Mainly to the fact that I could pick my own job before I made any obligations.”
Sgt. Glaze says doing so prepared him for life after the army. Now, he's giving young recruits the same opportunity through PaYS.
“Its another benefit to tack on to help ensure that the Army is here to take care of you. It's not you give us everything you got and then we kick you out the door,” he said.
But Glaze says the program is also reflection of the Dalton community.
“It shows that the community Supports us and they support what we do.”
Dalton Utilities is now the second company in Dalton to partner with the Army.
Sgt. Glaze says Shaw Industries is also on board.
