Off-duty Chattanooga police sergeant passes away from medical issue
A veteran of the Chattanooga Police Department passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning.
The police department says Sgt. Joseph Montijo died at a local hospital from a medical issue.
Montijo was not on duty.
Sgt. Montijo was a member of the Chattanooga Police Department for more than 12 years.
“Since February, 2007 I’ve watched Sgt. Montijo meticulously work hundreds of crime scenes,” Chief David Roddy said. “He directly contributed to the arrest and prosecution of more criminals than anyone can begin to account for, brought justice to more families than we will ever know, and built relationships and friendships with more of us than we can fathom at this time.”
Funeral services have not been announced at this time.
