Volkswagen is holding a groundbreaking event Wednesday for construction to begin at the Chattanooga plant as part of an $800 million expansion. 

Volkswagen says the expansion is expected to bring about 1,000 new jobs. 

 

The plant is being expanded to accommodate the production of an electric vehicle.
