Kayaker drowns at Little River Canyon in Alabama
A 41-year-old man drowned at the Little River Canyon National Preserve while kayaking on Saturday.
According to the National Park Service, police received a report of a man from DeKalb County, Alabama pinned under a rock while kayaking on the Little River on Saturday morning.
Within minutes of the report, first responders were dispatched for a search-and-rescue operation.
Around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, the rescue operation was converted to a recovery operation.
Due to weather and rising water levels, efforts were suspended at 4:00 p.m. and resumed at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday.
The victim was recovered by helicopter around 12:15 p.m.
