UPDATE: A single-car crash Monday morning on Interstate 24 claimed the lives of both people inside.

The car left the road and rolled over several times in the median of Interstate 24 westbound near mile marker 2.

Dade County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Chad Payne said that when deputies arrived at the scene of the crash, the vehicle's two occupants were trapped inside.

Once the victims were removed from the crash, they determined both people were dead.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash, and what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and crash, is currently unknown.

The victims should be identified by the Georgia State Patrol, once families have been notified.

The accident has backed up the interstate in both directions into Tennessee as investigators perform their work and the roadway is cleared.

Currently, there's no word on the cause of the crash or other injuries.

TDOT's SmartWay website estimates the road to be cleared by 3:00pm eastern.
