Man accused of killing 19-year-old pregnant woman appears in court Tuesday
A man accused of murdering a pregnant teenager appeared in court on Tuesday.
JeMichael Powell, 27, is charged with criminal homicide after shooting Quintasia Tate, 19, in August.
Chattanooga Police say Powell shot Tate outside Rainbow Creek Apartments on August 26.
An autopsy report shows she was shot six times.
Police added Powell on TBI's Most Wanted List before finding him last month.
He is now charged with criminal homicide and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Powell appeared in the courtroom for a preliminary hearing that didn't happen.
"It appears that you all may have worked out a plea that will be taken in criminal court – that would be up to judge in criminal court – if they would accept the plea," Judge Lila Statom told Powell in court Tuesday.
Several family members of Tate's appeared in the courtroom Tuesday.
While they didn't want to talk on camera, they showed Channel 3 the t-shirts they made in honor of Tate.
One t-shirt said, "Heaven couldn't wait for you."
Powell's next court date is set for October 29.
