PREVINearly three dozen people are homeless after a large fire destroyed part of Hamilton Pointe Apartments Saturday.

While the Chattanooga Fire Department doesn't know the exact cause of the fire, a spokesperson said it appears to be accidental, starting from a lower level.

A spokesperson said three dogs and a rabbit were killed in the fire.

Due to the structural damage of the building, firefighters were forced to demolish the building.

Staff with Hamilton Pointe Apartments will be collecting donations at the rental office from 9 a.m to 6 p.m. all week.

They are asking for basic essentials like clothes, toothbrush, and toothpaste.

Susan Lemiuex saw footage of the fire over the weekend. She dropped off several clothing items to the office on Monday.

"It's just devastating that people should lose everything," Lemiux said. "I'm not sure who can use the clothes I've brought but I'm sure somebody could make use of them."

We're told the American Red Cross is helping these families.

If you would like to help the Red Cross, they are accepting monetary donations.
