The City of Athens, Tennessee is raising the local sales tax from 9 to 9.75 percent starting on November 1, after residents voted to approve the change.

The city says the new tax rate applies to all taxable sales of personal property and services for billing periods starting November 1.

Voters approved the tax rate increase on August 20.
