A Chattanooga man who attacked a woman is being committed to a mental health facility.

Michael Deshun Roberson attacked a 33-year-old woman on September 27, 2017, stabbing her several times and gouging out both of her eyes.

Roberson was arrested by Chattanooga PD and charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

Roberson was found not guilty by reason of insanity earlier this year but was kept in custody for a psychological evaluation.

On October 9, Assistant District Attorney Andrew Coyle recommended that Roberson be committed to involuntary treatment in a secure facility, saying that Roberson presented a danger to the public.

Roberson was ordered to be committed to the Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute.

Coyle says that under no circumstances can Roberson be released without a hearing and permission of the court.
