UPDATE: Chattanooga police have arrested a suspect in October 6 deadly shooting outside a popular Southside nightclub.

Jamycal Johnson has been charged with criminal homicide in the death of Brandon Rogers, 19, at Coyote Jack's.

A Chattanooga Police department spokesperson tells Channel 3 that Rogers was a gang member.

There's currently no known motivation for the shooting, according to police.

Police say that the arrest came after an extensive investigation by CPD Homicide Investigators, along with the assistance of multiple community members.

During their investigation, CPD collected video from numerous cameras, reviewed the footage, and were able to determine Johnson to be the suspect from the deadly shooting of Rogers.

Additional physical evidence located on the scene linked Johnson to the crime scene at the time of the incident.

Johnson is currently in custody at the Hamilton County Jail.

The shooting happened Sunday just before 2:30 a.m. at Coyote Jack's located at 1400 Cowart Street.

Police identify the victim as 19-year-old Brandon Rogers.

According to Channel 3 archives, this is the third fatal shooting at Coyote Jack's since 2016.

Chattanooga police officers were already on the scene before the shooting took place, shutting down the nightclub for allegedly violating capacity requirements.

"They were made aware of a possible altercation or incident right outside the front door of Coyote Jack's," said Chattanooga Police Chief David Roddy.

Chattanooga police say rumors spread on social media that the victim was shot by an officer. Chief Roddy says not only is the rumor false, but he also says his officers tried to save the victim.

"They also immediately took action to try and save that individual's life. Unfortunately, for some reason individuals felt the need to spread this story or this rumor," said Chief Roddy in a press conference on Sunday.

Channel 3 archives show Rogers was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment in connection reports of shots being fired outside the nightclub in February of this year.

"I provide a good safe environment. Don't go back on shut the club down, shut the club down, especially when you haven't even been in the club," said Taylor.

Chattanooga Police tell Channel 3 Coyote Jack's is strictly for people 21 years old and older.
