The Bessie Smith Cultural Center and Mary Walker Historical and Educational Foundation will host the Big 9 Roots Festival Saturday.

The festival will highlight Chattanooga's rich African American history.

There will be live music, vendors, food, and a cook-off contest.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. until 11 pm. Saturday along MLK Boulevard.

The festival kicks off with the Volkswagon Atlas Parade of History at University Street and MLK Boulevard.

The parade will end in front of the Bessie Smith Cultural Center.

Two stages will feature local entertainers throughout the festival.

We're told the event is free to the public.
