UPDATE: Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson says 8-year-old Bentley Robbins was the boy found dead behind his family's home in Chickamauga.

He says they got the call around 8:00 pm last night after the child's maternal grandmother, and mother's boyfriend found him in a wooded area behind the house.

"Went into the wooded area behind the home, probably about 30 to 35 ft. or so there's an old building that's dilapidated, and the boyfriend and the maternal grandmother found him lying there," said Sheriff Wilson.

He says they're investigating all possibilities, there were no obvious signs of the cause of death.

"It is so early in the investigative process that we have to look at all areas of motive, or was it a natural death, or was it an accidental death," said Sheriff Wilson.

Sheriff Wilson says they learned that Robbins was sent home early from Chattanooga Valley Elementary School after feeling sick on Thursday.

"He did become ill during the early morning school hours yesterday morning," said Sheriff Wilson.

He says they don't know at this point if that's related to his passing.

Walker County Superintendent Damon Raines sent us this statement:

"We are saddened by this loss and are keeping this family in our thoughts and prayers."

Sheriff Wilson says they're still trying to establish a time line, including which adult had responsibility of the child at the time.

"There is some confusion at this point as to who may have had responsibility and watching him, and we're trying to get to the bottom of that," said Sheriff Wilson.

The GBI Crime Lab is conducting an autopsy to determine a cause of death.

The autopsy for Bentley has not yet been released.
