A Chattanooga firefighter was treated for a heat-related injury while trying to save a home off Shallowford Road on Friday.

It happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Beeler Avenue.

CFD spokesperson Lindsey Rogers says a neighbor saw smoke coming from the empty home, called 911 and helped firefighters find the scene.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from beneath the home but they could not immediately find the source of it.

Rogers says crews cut holes in the floor where they found the fire and extinguished it.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire.

The injured firefighter was treated at the scene by Hamilton County EMS.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
