Volkswagen is set to show off the new Atlas Cross Sport to Chattanooga at the inaugural Chattanooga MotorCar Festival October 11.

The new, five-seat SUV will be built in Chattanooga just as its larger sibling the VW Atlas SUV.

The Atlas Cross Sport in its concept form was 7.5 inches shorter than the Atlas, but retained same wheelbase. The concept vehicle, which was displayed at the 2018 New York International Auto Show, used a plug-in hybrid drive system, with two electric motors, a V6 gasoline engine, and 355 horsepower.

The production vehicle will go on sale in early 2020.

"This is a great chance for everyone to see the new Atlas Cross Sport that is built right here in Chattanooga, and to celebrate the first Chattanooga MotorCar Festival to be held in this city," said Byron DeFoor, founder of the Chattanooga MotorCar Festival. "We invite everyone to join us in West Village and check out Volkswagen's latest vehicle."

"We are really excited that the first public appearance of the Atlas Cross Sport will be in Chattanooga's West Village, following its Global Reveal to the media at the factory," said Mark Gillies, Senior Manager, Product and Technology Communications, Volkswagen of America. "The Chattanooga MotorCar Festival is a great opportunity for us to showcase the vehicle in its own backyard."
