Athens police say a deadly shooting on Friday has led to a TBI investigation.

It happened around 1:00 p.m. on Delmar Street.

Police say they spoke to an 18-year-old female when they arrived at the residence and found that law enforcement was not required.

Police say a short time later they heard a loud noise inside the home while they were talking to the woman’s boyfriend.

Police say they found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police say the woman was taken to a hospital where she later died.

Her name has not been released.

Athens police say the TBI is asked to investigate all deaths or serious injuries that happen during calls involving APD officers.
