Risk of severe storms today
There is another risk of storms this afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center has placed us in a Marginal Risk for those in eastern Bradley County counties and for our folks in Polk, Cherokee, Monroe, and those in eastern Murray, Fannin and Gilmer. A Marginal Risk means isolated severe storms are possible.
A Severe Thunderstorm is a storm producing 60 mph winds or greater, hail of 1” in diameter or greater, or a tornado. We had one Severe Thunderstorm yesterday in Franklin County. Storms that were over Georgia last night did not reach the severe criteria, even though they caused some damage.
THREATS: Damaging wind gusts, large hail, lightning, and heavy rain
AREAS: Best chance, east of I-75
RAINFALL: 0.50” to 1” where strongest storms develop.
