Meigs Middle School placed on brief lockdown due to false alarm
According to the Meigs County Sheriff's Department Facebook page, Meigs Middle School was on lockdown Wednesday morning for a short amount of time.
A physical education class was outside when they thought they heard a gunshot nearby. The class immediately returned inside the building. 911 was called and law enforcement responded quickly.
Upon investigation, no gunman was located. Construction and utility work is taking place close to the school, which may have created an alarming sound.
The sheriff's office says at no point were any students in danger.
