Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy is the only public school in the area to provide a health clinic with a full time doctor.

Leaders of the school came up with the idea as a way to tackle the problem of absenteeism. They knew their girls wouldn't succeed if they're not in class.

In many cases a doctor on site can solve a minor health problem and send the student back to class.

Dr. Saundra Williams has 35 years experience practicing as a family care physician.

She is excited to be working with the CGLA community.

Williams often turns her time with the girls into teachable moments, using her old anatomy textbook to explain.

The girls say having the clinic gives them confidence knowing a health problem can be addressed right away.

They don't pay anything and they don't have to disrupt their parents' work in most cases.
