Hixson family safely escapes house fire, dog does not
An early morning fire at a Hixson home significantly damaged the home and claimed the life of a family dog.
A neighbor awoke Wednesday morning to the sounds of her dogs barking and then noticed her neighbor’s back deck was on fire, according to Amy Maxwell of the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management.
The neighbor called 911 to report the fire on Blue Spruce Drive.
When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting through the roof and on the backside of the home. The home's occupants were able to safely escape, but a dog never made it out of the home, according to the homeowner.
Dallas Bay Fire Officials report 90% of the home was destroyed, causing about $150,000 in damage.
The American Red Cross was requested to take care of the family of three adults and two children and their immediate needs.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
