Food City officials announced they'll be providing the seasonal flu vaccine this season which provides protection against the most common strains of influenza.

Vaccinations are available on a walk-up basis at Food City immunizing pharmacies and will continue throughout the season, based upon availability.

While everyone is encouraged to receive a flu shot, the CDC classifies the following as high risk for Influenza: people 65 or older, residents of long-term care facilities, people 2 to 64 years of age with more than one disease, pregnant women, and healthcare personnel who provide direct patient care or household contacts and out-of-home caregivers of children under 6 months of age.

Food City Pharmacists can vaccinate people 14 years and older. Insurance, including Medicare Part B, will be accepted, many with a zero copay.

Officials say flu viruses are most common during the fall and winter months.
