Volkswagen is recalling 679,000 vehicles in the United States that could roll away because of an electrical issue.

The vehicles include the German automaker's Jetta, Beetle, Beetle Convertible, Golf, Golf Sportwagen and GTI from various model years from 2011 through 2019.

Drivers could remove the key after stopping the vehicle, without putting the vehicle in park, which could allow vehicles to roll away.

Dealers will install an additional switch and circuit board and disable a microswitch to prevent the key removal before the vehicle is put into park.

A Volkswagen spokesman said there are no reports of injuries.

Volkswagen's official name for the recall is Compliance Recall 37L5 – Shift Lever Micro Switch.

VW's Recall Website says the recalls have already begun and parts are readily available to dealers.
