UPDATE: Man fatally shoots intruder; ends up in jail on weapons charge
UPDATE: A Bradley County fatally shot a man in his home early Thursday morning.
Adam Herron called 911 to report a gunshot at his home at 12:47am on Upper River Road NE in Charleston, according to a spokesman for the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office.
Herron told deputies he was asleep and woke up to a man inside his bedroom, attempting to drag him off the bed by his feet. The man was able to drag Herron towards the home's front door, a short distance from the bed. Herron explained he grabbed a shotgun that belonged to his father, which he kept under his pillow, and fired one shot at the man who fell off the porch.
When deputies arrived, a search warrant was obtained and a shotgun was located on the porch.
EMS arrived on scene and pronounced the male suspect, William Pappageorge, dead.
Herron is a convicted felon out of Bradley County, according to the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office. He was convicted of aggravated burglary July 6 of 2010 in Bradley County.
Because of his prior conviction, BCSO says it was unlawful for Herron to possess a firearm. Herron is being charged with Prohibited Weapon for the shotgun, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm due to his felony conviction.
Herron is currently being held in the Bradley County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
The homicide is still under investigation, and additional charges will be determined after a full examination of all evidence collected at the scene, statements of material witnesses, and further consultation with the District Attorney’s Office.
