Red Wolves lose first home match in franchise history
Chattanooga Red Wolves SC (8-6-7) fell 2-0 to North Texas SC (11-4-5) at David Stanton Field on Saturday night.
North Texas took control of the match early in the first half, holding the Red Wolves to only one shot while they tallied 10 of their own. Goalkeeper Alex Mangels kept Chattanooga in the match, making two diving saves in the first 25 minutes. Mangels could only do so much though as North Texas got on the board first in the 35th minute with a goal from Callum Montgomery.
The second half was more of the same for North Texas as they continued to control the match. Chattanooga created chances aiming to get the equalizer, however. In the 71st minute, forward Eamon Zayed fired a shot following a corner kick, but it hit the post keeping the score at 1-0 in favor of North Texas.
North Texas sealed the match in the 88th minutes as Ronaldo Damus fired one past Mangels to make it 2-0.
Conor Doyle wore the captain band for the Red Wolves, his first time doing so this season. The midfielder recorded five tackles and three total shots. Defender Nicholas Amponsah was solid on the backline, recording three tackles, three clearances and four blocks. Mangels finished with four saves and three crosses claimed.
The Red Wolves return to action on Wednesday, August 21, as they take on South Georgia Tormenta FC at Erk Russell Park. That match kicks off at 8 p.m. ET and can be streamed live on ESPN+. It will be the first of a four-match road run for the Red Wolves.
