Whitwell faces early adversity in first ever state title defense
The celebration may still be ongoing in Whitwell after the 2018 Tigers went 15-0 and captured the school's first state championship in any sport. Many players from that undefeated squad have graduated, but the ones that are coming back have to hit the refresh button while guiding the younger generation of Whitwell Tigers.
Six starters return on both offense and defense in what first-year head coach Travis Olinger calls his "generals on the field."
Close to 20 freshman came out for the team this season and Whitwell will be utilizing that added depth early in the season.
Due to a scheduling error, the Tigers will open the 2019 season at East Ridge on Wednesday, August 21st. Three days later they'll travel to Bledsoe County for their second game of the season.
Whitwell knows the pressure is on this season after their state championship run. They're hoping it makes them hungrier than ever to get back to Cookeville.
