UPDATE: Woman killed in crash with McMinn County Sheriff's patrol car
UPDATE: A woman was killed Wednesday afternoon when the car she was a passenger in was involved in a crash with a McMinn County Sheriff’s patrol car.
Sheriff Joe Guy says Deputy Ashley McClendon was traveling south on Congress Parkway in Athens when another vehicle, driven by 60-year-old Frankie Greer, turned in front of the deputy, causing the collision.
A crash report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol says the impact from the collision caused Greer's car to spin-out, ejecting the passenger, 56-year-old Linda Greer, before landing on top of her in a ditch.
The report says Greer was not wearing a seat belt.
Sheriff Guy says Deputy McClendon and Frankie Greer received minor injuries. Both were treated at Starr Athens.
"It was a terrible situation," Sheriff Guy says. "Our thoughts and prayers are with my deputy and with the Greer family."
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
