UPDATE: A man involved in a deadly crash on McBrien Road back in August has been charged.

Johnathan Nelson, 40, has been charged with failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of driving under the influence.

Nelson is due in court on January 3, 2020.


PREVIOUS STORY: Chattanooga police are investigating a deadly crash on McBrien Road Monday afternoon.

It happened in the 300 block shortly before 3:15 p.m.

Police say a 40-year-old male driver over-corrected while in a curve, causing the vehicle to run off the road and hit two trees in the front yard of a home.

Police say a 69-year-old male passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, died from his injuries.

The driver was taken to a local hospital where his condition is unknown.

McBrien Road was closed from N. Terrace to Lynnland Terrace because of the crash but has since reopened.

No charges have been filed at this time.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
