Some residents in the Tennessee Valley may have felt an earthquake on Sunday.

It happened inside the Cherokee National Forest around 9:15 a.m.

The U.S. Geological Survey says it was a small quake with a 2.3 magnitude.

It was just over 10 miles deep and about six miles south of Etowah in McMinn County.

Another earthquake was recorded about a mile southwest of the Sweetwater area, just after 5:30 Sunday morning. The U.S. Geological Survey says this quake had a 2.4 magnitude.
