The Signal Mountain Town Council voted and approved the second and final reading of the proposed fiscal year 2019-2020 budget on Monday night.

Council members voted 3 to 1 with Vice Mayor Amy Speek opposing the vote.

Mayor Dan Landrum said the 32-cent property tax increase was the only way to meet the requirements of the 2019-2020 budget.

Speek says her decision to vote against the budget had nothing to do with salary increases for town employees. She says the budget was simply done the "wrong way.”

Speek also asked the mayor to go on the record in saying there will not be a tax increase until next year.

Mayor Landrum responded by saying there will be no increase, with the only exception being if trees fell on every building in town.
