UPDATE:  The teen girl who fell off of a raft during a trip down the Ocoee River has died.

According to a GoFundMe page that was created to help with medical expenses , "the family made the difficult decision to take her off life support.  There was too much swelling in her brain and nothing more the doctors could do." 

She passed away with her family by her side.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what happened before she fell into the water.

PREVIOUS STORY: Several agencies are investigating a near drowning on the Ocoee River over the weekend.

The incident happened on Sunday around 10:00 a.m.

Polk County Sheriff Steve Ross tells Channel 3, a 16-year-old nearly drowned while on a rafting trip.

The teen was taken to Erlanger where she is listed in critical condition.

Channel 3 has reached out to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation to see if the agency is investigating.

A spokesperson for TDEC says, "Tennessee State Parks will investigate the incident per park policy."

Channel 3 is working to learn more about the incident.
