Tuesday morning, UTC hosted a Fallen Five Memorial Service to honor the men who lost their lives during a terrorist attack in Chattanooga four years ago.

This will be the last year UTC holds its own Fallen Five Memorial Service.

This was an emotional day for many servicemen and women like Linda Hinkle.

“Someone that you could've served beside potential he who was a brother or sister who is no longer here with us,” said Hinkle. “So my heart always lingers it close to the families at this time.”

Hinkle says next year will be an opportunity for the community to unite and support the official memorial site at the Tennessee River Park.

“I can only imagine, to be honest with you,” said Hinkle. “Now you have a dedicated place where people can go here in Chattanooga to visit regularly.”

Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan, Lance Cpl. Squire Skip Wells, Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith, Sgt. Carson Holmquist, and Staff Sgt. David Wyatt, were the brave servicemen who lost their lives during the attack.

“We need to always remember,” said Lindsey Pardue. “You always think that terrorism happens outside of our country, but here it happened in our city.”

Pardue took some time out of her workday to attend this service, she said occasions like this make her proud.

She says it shows that we are true Americans and we appreciate everything that the armed services do for our country.

“I would you say thank you so much for everything that you do for us each and every day,” said Pardue. “We will never forget you and we will always be behind you.”
