GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Hundreds have gathered to honor a Georgia deputy killed in the line of duty.
Family members, fellow law enforcement officers and friends remembered Hall County Deputy Nicolas Blane Dixon's dedication to serving his community, his Christian faith and his humor during the funeral Thursday.
Dozens of people lined Gainesville's streets to watch police vehicles lead Dixon's processional to Memorial Park Cemetery.
Authorities say the 28-year-old deputy died from a bullet wound early Monday after trying to stop a stolen car. Seventeen-year-old Hector Garcia Solis has been charged with felony murder in Dixon's death.
Sgt. Charles Hewell worked with Dixon the night of the shooting and remembered Dixon's calm demeanor. Hewell says he never heard Dixon scream or cry after the bullet struck.
