Family, friends remember Ooltewah man who drowned in Destin
Celebrating his upcoming 50th birthday, Bhuvaneshwar Karunanithi, his wife, two daughters and his parents took a trip to Destin, Florida.
But according to a Go Fund Me account, created by a family friend, the family's life was quickly turned upside down.
It says while playing with his kids in the water on Saturday, a rip tide pulled Karunanithi causing him to drown. One of his daughters was just feet away when it happened.
First responders were able to retrieve Karunanithi 's body, but he did not survive.
The 49-year-old man described as having a fun loving, vibrant, energetic soul with a "loud" opinion will be missed. As his family tries to cope with life without him, their community is doing everything they can to help them.
“He will be thoroughly missed by family and friends and colleagues. However, he will live in our hearts forever and continue to serve scores of people through his organ and tissue donations,” the Go Fund Me page creator wrote.
The page goes on to note was planning to take his oldest daughter on college visits soon, “as she gets ready to step into her senior year in high school this fall.” It says the money raised will go towards the education expenses of his children.
We spoke to Karunanithi's wife, who was too emotional to speak on camera.
She told Channel 3, "I lost my husband, but I have gained so much support from the community."
