The Chattanooga Heroes Run/Walk will be held July, 13th just three days before the fourth anniversary of the shootings at the Armed Services Recruiting Center and the U.S. Naval Operational Support Center and Marine Corps Reserve Center on July 16, 2015.

The run/walk proceeds go to the construction of the Fallen Five Memorial to honor the memories of Gy. Sgt. Thomas Sullivan, Staff Sgt. David Wyatt, Sgt. Carson Holmquist, Lance Cpl. Squire Wells, and Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Randall Smith.

Over the last three years, more than $50,000 has been raised by the race presented by Erlanger's Level One Trauma Center. This year will be its last since they're close to the end of their fundraising efforts, according to Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke.

"We're about 90% finished with the fundraising, but we have more to go," said Mayor Berke. "We need businesses and people to contribute so we can finish this."

Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger said they're building the memorial in the artist's studio and then it will be brought to the Tennessee Riverpark to be assembled.

"Sometime in the fall, the memorial will be open to the public but we want to give the families a private viewing prior to it becoming public," said Mayor Coppinger.

The anniversary is fast approaching.

"As we come up on the anniversary of it we will all reflect where we were at that day, reflect back on the funerals we attended, and reflect back on the family members that we met," said Mayor Coppinger.

This will be one of the last opportunities to contribute to the memorial. If you would like to register, click here
