Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Monday signed into law a bill called the "Lemonade Law"

This new legislation allows kids to operate a lemonade stand without a license.

Governor Greg Abbott, " Here is a common sense law. It allows kids to sell lemonade at lemonade stands. We had to pass it because police shut down a lemonade stand here in Texas. So kids...(signing bill, lifting lemonade) cheers!"

The law targets local health codes and neighborhood rules that intentionally or unintentionally ban the stands or require permits for them to operate.
Support for the law grew after police in Overton, Texas shut down a lemonade stand run by the two girls in 2015.
