Hamilton County officials are holding a news conference Wednesday morning outside the courthouse on the 2020 proposed budget.

During a workshop Tuesday, Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger presented the proposed budget to county commissioners.

The budget proposal included a 34-cent increase in property taxes to cover additional funding to the school system.

In May, Hamilton County Schools Superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson present his $443 million proposed budget, which included a $34 million increase.

The additional funding would go toward new technology, upgrades to old facilities, new positions and a 5% pay raise for teachers.

The non-profit Unified plans to hold a rally during Wednesday's county commission meeting to show their support for additional funding for the schools.
