UPDATE: First responders in Grundy County were able to locate 17-year-old Skyler Copeland after three hours of searching in the Tracy City Reservoir, according to Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum.

He said first responders immediately took action when they saw Jason Copeland and his 16-year-old son on the shore of the reservoir.

"We immediately had fire, EMS, and a police officer in the water trying to locate this young man and they weren't able to do that," said Sheriff Shrum.

He said Skyler never made it to shore after their boat capsized while fishing.

"It was a father and two sons and all indications show that the father did everything he could to get both of those boys out of there," said Sheriff Shrum.

As time went on the mission moved from a rescue to a recovery.

"It took us about three hours to find the victim. We had to call a dive team from Franklin County," Sheriff Shrum said.

The Franklin County Dive Team used sonar technology to locate Skyler's body. Sheriff Shrum said the area the teen was found in is about 20-feet deep.

"It's just one of those things that you try to do everything you can with what you got there. Unfortunately, the water was just a little too deep and we couldn't get in the right location," he said.

Sheriff Shrum said he was there on Saturday night, and while first responders do their best to provide comfort, it's impossible to understand the Copeland family's loss.

"No matter what words you come up with it's never enough to comfort the family who's just lost a child and a brother," said Sheriff Shrum.

Sheriff Shrum said the Tracy City Police Department does not suspect any foul play.
