Head-on collision claims the life of wrong-way driver in Dade County
A head-on collision late Thursday night claimed the life of one of the drivers involved.
The Dade County Sheriff's Office says that deputies were alerted by dispatchers to a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lanes on Interstate 59. As they arrived, they learned of a head-on collision on Interstate 24 west.
That's where they found the vehicle traveling in the wrong direction, which appeared to strike an oncoming vehicle head-on.
The female driver of the wrong-direction vehicle was found dead at the scene when deputies arrived. The occupants of the other vehicle, an adult and a child, were transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
The crash occurred near mile marker 30, between the I-59/I-24 junction and the Wildwood exit, according to the Dade County Sheriff's Office.
The Georgia State Patrol is working with the Dade County Sheriff's Office to investigate the crash.
