A Chattanooga man has been charged with assault after a road rage incident last week.

The video of the altercation was posted on Facebook and shared thousands of times.

Police say Joseph Koehler was westbound on Interstate 24 Friday near milemarker 181 near 4th Avenue when the driver of another vehicle attempted to merge from the on-ramp into the travel lane.

Koehler told police he'd been cut off by the truck driven by Alexander Nicolou. The two men apparently exchanged hand gestures and words. A witness told police that Nicolou tried to 'brake check' Koehler.

When traffic came to a stop (due to congestion) Koehler got out of his vehicle and approached Nicolou and punched him 'multiple' times, according to the arrest affidavit.

The video shows the two men rolling around on the side of the interstate as vehicles navigated around the fighting men.

Joseph Koehler has been charged with simple assault in the incident.
