Chattanooga police say a man was acting in self-defense when he shot two people to death Saturday night in Hixson.

It happened shortly after 10:00 p.m. in the 6700 block of Ardis Lane.

CPD spokesperson Trevor Tomas says 27-year-old Kirtus Thompson and 57-year-old Douglas Patterson were both shot during the incident.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene and Patterson died at a local hospital.

The shooter was also seriously injured and taken to a local hospital. The shooter's condition is unknown.

Tomas says the shooter has not been charged at this time because it appears he was defending himself.

The investigation is ongoing.
