Dunlap mechanic facing theft charges for making fraudulent repair
A Dunlap mechanic is facing charges following an investigation into a complaint that he was making fraudulent vehicle repairs.
Police say Richard E. Binney, who owns Richard's Service Center on Rankin Avenue, is facing theft charges.
A man told police that he had taken his vehicle to Richard's Service Center to have a used transmission he had purchased installed in his vehicle.
The complainant reported to officers that after his vehicle was returned to him, he noticed the transmission was still not working right.
Detectives interviewed Binney who told him he had replaced the original vehicle transmission with the used one. Police say he could not show them the original transmission, however.
"Upon further investigating and inspection of the complainant’s vehicle, Detectives were able to determine that the original transmission was never replaced," police said.
Binney was arrested and booked into the Sequatchie County Jail on a $1,000 bond.
He is due in court on June 27.
