A local veteran got the surprise of a lifetime on Sunday all with the help of his family and friends.

James Burrows, who lives in Chickamauga, is a Vietnam veteran and has a huge passion for classic car.  Burrows also has ALS from being sprayed with agent orange while on the ground in Vietnam.

For his birthday, Burrows had planned a cruise-in with his friends where they all brought their cars together for people to see. It was at the cruise-in that he was surprised with a Quilt of Valor.

Burrow's sister, Laura Thorn, says this surprise meant the world to him.  Thorn says she wanted to capture this moment before the effects of the disease got even worse.

"It was a deep look of gratitude that somebody cares, cause they didn't get a lot of care when they came back, He just loves helping people, that's why I wanted to have this today, to pay him back for some of the things he's done. "

Thorn says she is grateful for all her brother's friends and says that we should all honor veterans every day.
