UPDATE: Silverdale Baptist Academy in Chattanooga took a major step forward Thursday.

Construction of the new Silverdale Center is about to begin!

After nearly two years of planning and fundraising, the $8.9 million facility will soon be a reality.

The center will house the school's performing arts and athletic departments, as well as classrooms.

Silverdale has grown in leaps and bounds in recent years, and the new addition will be a game changer for students in grades K-12.

"They will have classrooms over there. They will have all of their chapel services over there," Head of School Becky Hansard said. "They will dance there; they'll play sports there; they'll act there. Just all kinds of new opportunities that we've never ever had."

The Creekside Theatre will hold nearly 650 guests and provide a spacious venue for theatre productions, concerts and more. There will also be an intimate black box theatre.

The new gym will provide seating for 1,000 fans.

Completion is scheduled for August 2020.

"After nearly two years of planning and fundraising, we are eager to break ground and begin construction on this $8.9 million facility," a school spokesperson said.

The facility will have dedicated spaces for the school's performing arts and athletic departments, a Silverdale Baptist Academy spokesperson explained. In addition, the building will house classrooms for the school's 6th-grade classes, which are gender-specific.

The Silverdale Center will feature the Creekside Theatre, which will be used for concerts, recitals, guest lectures, theatre productions and more.

"With its orchestra pit, full fly space, dressing rooms, and expansive audio/visual capabilities, the Creekside Theatre will hold nearly 650 guests and provide a proper venue for theatre productions, concerts, recitals, guest lectures, chapels, worship services, and more," a spokesperson explained.

The center will also offer new spaces for musicians, singers actors and dancers to practice and perform.

"Supporting the Creekside Theatre is a more intimate black box theatre, proper rehearsal space for band, orchestra, and choir, a dance studio, and individual studio spaces for private instruction or personal practice time," the spokesperson said.

The Silverdale Center will include a gymnasium that will have seating for 1,000 fans split between the two sides of the court and can be used for both basketball and volleyball. There will also be locker rooms, a weight room, a space for an athletic trainer and a concession stand.

Classrooms for 6th-grade students will be located upstairs.

"Also upstairs will be the individual studio spaces we mentioned before, as well as the control room for all-things production-related going on in The Creekside Theatre," the spokesperson said.

The groundbreaking will take place on Thursday, May 9 from 12:00 pm-1:00 pm.

"We have been blessed by the outpouring of generosity from the greater Silverdale community as we endeavored to take on this God-sized project. We are thankful to Rardin & Carroll Architects for both their design work and project guidance and look forward to working with J&J Contractors of Chattanooga as the project is slated to begin immediately following groundbreaking."
