UPDATE: Lockdown lifted at Whitfield County elementary school after chase suspect arrested
UPDATE: A suspect is in custody following a pursuit that forced a Whitfield County school to go on lockdown Thursday.
Tunnel Hill Elementary School was on lockdown for around 15 minutes, according to Whitfield County Schools spokesperson Kristina Horsley.
The Tunnel Hill Police Department identified the suspect as Daniel Shane Widener.
According to the chief, Widener was wanted on two felony warrants. Police knew he often visited a trailer park behind the school.
The chief saw him and gave chase.
Widener ran into a home and back out and continued to flee, but he was finally found in a drainage ditch and taken into custody, the chief told Channel 3.
Widener had warrants out of both Hamilton and Whitfield Counties. He will now also face additional charges, the chief said.
Widener was taken to the Whitfield County Jail, and the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office assisted with the pursuit.
The lockdown was also lifted at the school.
